SPECIAL EVENTS…

MAWNAN W.I

We wish everyone in the community a Happy New Year and hope to welcome visitors and new members to our meetings and activities. We regularly risk assess our programme and always follow the current government guidelines.

Thursday 13th January Monthly Meeting at 7.15pm: Rachel Greenland will talk about the Mercy Ships programme: ‘An international charity which provides free shipboard medi- cal and healthcare to the poorest parts of the world’ (open to prospective members)

Tuesday 11th January at 10.30am: Coffee Drop-in on Zoom (members only)

Saturday 22nd January at 2.30pm at Trebah Gardens: Cake, Chat & Company (members and invited guests)

Tuesday 25th January at 10.00am: Banish the January Blues walk at Trebah Gardens followed by coffee in the cafeĢ at 11am (members and guests)

Wednesday 26th January at 2.30pm Book Club discussing “The Girl With The Louding Voice” by Abi Dare (members only)

Saturday 29th January at 10am: Food Bank and Blister Pack collection in the Square. For this month only we will also be collecting used stamps (open to the whole community)

Monday 31st January: Green Hearts Workshop - look out for details (open to the whole community)

Mawnan Mothers' Union will be meeting at 2.30 pm in Mawnan Memorial Hall for our AGM on Wednesday 12th January and to also to hear about Falmouth and Penryn welcoming refugees.

CLUBS AND GROUPS

MAWNAN FILM CLUB

On Friday 28th January at 7.30pm we will be screening the Oscar and BAFTA nominated 2019 film ‘Little Women’, starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson and Florence Pugh.

The Memorial Hall is Covid-19 safe and we request that face masks be worn in the hall.  In advance of the screening all non-members will need to take out a 12 months’ membership at a cost of £6.00, which includes admission to the film. The charge for existing members is £4.00.  Booking is essential - for full details and to book tickets please follow this link:

Because of Covid restrictions seating is limited so booking is on a first come first served basis, so don’t delay

 

SPORTS AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES

MAWNAN BOWLING CLUB

With the outdoor season now completed, members will be playing carpet bowls over the winter months. This game is played on a special carpet, using small bowls and is great fun, as well as an opportunity to meet new people.

If you would like a try at this game, please contact Ian Newman (250334), Malcolm Dearnley (251133) or Ray Robinson ( 212760), who will be delighted to arrange a trial session for you


 

Remember to also keep an eye out on the Community Website page (www.mawnanparish.co.uk) as we regularly add items that come to light through the parish council email.    The Parish Council also post items and invitations on their facebook page (www.facebook.com/MawnanParishCouncil) for events and opportunities open to the parish community.

This month there is Tree Warden training available through Falmouth Town Council, The Repair Café on Sunday 9th January, 1.30-4.00pm, at Princess Pavilion, Falmouth and the Local Network Area meeting for Falmouth & Penryn online on the 25th.

Falmouth TC are holding a session for those interested in becoming Tree Wardens on Sunday 23rd January 2022 at Princess Pavilions details on their Facebook Page (@falmouthtowncouncil then under events), if anyone in our community are keen to join in they are most welcome to.

 

SUGGESTIONS WANTED ...

what do we do as a community for the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in June 2022? We're looking for groups to put forward ideas .. the PC are going to talk to the National Trust about a beacon on Rosemullion Head. We've also heard about a giving a community picnic on the Playing Field a go: what do people think??
